Task

You will be placed into groups of 3-4 by your subject coordinator.

 

You are required to view a movie – Remember the Titans.

 

  • You are to identify from this movie the various leaders in the movie. They may not all be lead characters;

1) Name then and describe briefly their role and identify the strengths and weaknesses they demonstrated as leaders during the movie. You may wish to give each person a character or two to write up and research;

 

2) Go on to assess their success as leaders in the movie. Justify your opinion with research from the literature that demonstrates what effective leadership is. Relate this information to leadership theory. This can be trait leadership, situational leadership, servant leadership or any documented leadership theory that you believes is appropriate.

 

3) Reflect on which aspects of leadership that your group has uncovered in the research that could be most helpful in the workplace. Justify your opinion with literature.

 

Rationale

 

Leadership skills and development is critical for your career development. Being able to identify traits and behaviours that demonstrate good leadership is essential. This assignment will focus you on understanding what good leadership looks like and allow you to reflect on how this impacts the workplace. Being able to plan, prepare, and present a project as a group is an important skill.

The learning objectives addressed in this assessment are:

  • be able to demonstrate personal development across a range of work preparation skills;
  • be able to develop proficiency in working independently and in working effectively as a team member; and
  • be able to evaluate personal development across a range of professional practice skills.
