Source Dialogue/Integration Essay

Due Date: 11:59pm on Sunday, April 2 through eCourses.
Length and Format: The source integration essay should be at least 900 words and should
not exceed 1200 words in length (which will roughly translate to a length of between 3 and 4
pages) and should be formatted according to APA guidelines.
Assignment Overview: Having completed the Annotated Bibliography, students will write
a Source Integration Essay which essentially demonstrates the current state of research and
discussion on a particular issue by placing the sources in conversation with one another…
 The essay should begin with an overview of the issue that the research project will
address.
 The essay should completely avoid the formation of an argument by the student, and
instead simply have the chosen sources converse with one another by focusing on
each of the following dialogue types:
o Focus on agreement or similarity between sources.
o Focus on disagreement or contrast between sources.
o Focus on corroboration between sources.
 This is where one source provides evidence that actually supports the
argument for a separate source.
o Focus on contradiction between sources.
 This is where one source provides evidence that undermines the
argument of a separate source.
o Focus on cause/effect between sources.
 This is where once source explores the cause or effect of something
that is initially observed or identified in a separate source.
Assignment Outcomes:
 Identify and describe a specific and compelling issue that is being discussed within an
academic community.
 Effectively summarize, paraphrase, and quote material from academic and nonacademic
source material using APA guidelines.
 Accurately identify and analyze relationships between sources.
 Compile a proper reference page using APA guidelines.
Grade: This grade will be worth 10% of your overall semester grade.
